IGCSE & IB MUSIC STUDENT SUPPORT

Extra support when Music starts to feel overwhelming

IGCSE and IB Music can be demanding because you are expected to manage several areas at the same time: performing, composing, listening, theory, coursework and exam preparation.

You may feel confident in one area but less secure in another. You might play your instrument well but find composition difficult, understand the music but struggle to explain it in an exam, or simply need help organising everything before deadlines.

IMPACT Student Support gives you focused online help with the parts of the course you actually need.

WHAT WE CAN WORK ON

Performing
Support with repertoire choice, interpretation, preparation for recordings and constructive feedback before assessment.

Composing
Help with developing your own musical ideas, structure, harmony, notation and instrumentation while ensuring that the final composition remains completely your own work.

Listening & Analysis
Learn how to recognise musical features, use musical vocabulary confidently, read scores and explain what you hear clearly.

Theory & Score Reading
Extra help with notation, rhythm, harmony, keys, chords, musical terminology and any areas of theory that may be holding you back.

Coursework & Organisation
Support with planning, understanding what still needs to be completed, organising coursework and managing deadlines.

Exam Preparation
Revision, listening strategies, practice questions, unfamiliar music and preparation for examination conditions.

INDIVIDUAL & SMALL-GROUP SUPPORT

Sessions are available online one-to-one or in small groups.

You do not need to follow another complete course. We first look at where you are now, identify what needs attention and then concentrate on those areas.

Support can be arranged as:

  • a single session to solve a specific problem

  • a short series of sessions before an examination or coursework deadline

  • regular support throughout the course

  • small-group sessions for students studying the same syllabus

GROUP SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS

Online group teaching can also be arranged when a school needs temporary specialist Music support.

This may be useful during:

  • teacher absence

  • extended leave

  • recruitment gaps

  • periods when specialist cover is unavailable

  • revision periods before examinations

Sessions can be delivered to small groups or whole IGCSE or IB Music classes and can follow the school’s existing programme rather than introducing a separate course.

Group sessions may focus on:

  • listening and analysis

  • theory and score reading

  • composition guidance

  • coursework organisation

  • revision

  • examination preparation

  • specific areas identified by the school

The aim is to maintain continuity of learning until normal classroom teaching resumes.

HOW IT WORKS

Support begins with a short discussion about the student’s or school’s current situation.

For individual students, we identify strengths, areas requiring attention, upcoming deadlines and the parts of the course where additional guidance would be most useful.

For schools, sessions can be planned around the existing scheme of work, syllabus requirements and current stage of the course.

Online support can therefore be used flexibly rather than requiring students or schools to commit to another complete programme.

FOR PARENTS

The aim is not to replace a student’s school teacher or instrumental teacher. It is to provide additional specialist support when more individual attention is needed than may be possible during normal school lessons.

Sessions focus on understanding, confidence, organisation and independent musical development.

Assessed compositions and coursework always remain the student’s own work.

Support is informed by international-school teaching experience together with formal professional development in Cambridge IGCSE Music assessment and IB Diploma Programme Music Category 1 and Category 2.

NOT SURE WHAT YOU NEED?

Start with an initial online meeting.

We can look at where you are in the course, what is already going well and where additional support would be most useful.
