IMPACT INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE ASSESSMENT — LEVELS A–M
IMPACT recognises that students begin at different instrumental levels and progress at their own pace. Through ensemble playing, students of different abilities learn, perform and develop together.
Levels A–M describe increasing tonal range, technical difficulty and musical demands. Grades 1–9 assess the quality of each student's performance at their current level, considering technique, accuracy, rhythmic control, independence, listening and ensemble awareness.
Teachers select suitable assessment repertoire according to the skills required at each level. Students demonstrate their ability to perform their parts confidently, respond to musical cues and contribute to the ensemble.
Assessment recognises individual achievement and continued improvement while encouraging independence, peer learning and collaboration through shared repertoire. Students can progress at different levels while remaining part of one musical community.

Students are not expected to reach an identical musical or technical endpoint. Assessment recognises progress from each student's starting point, while still requiring increasing independence, accuracy, musical understanding and control.
