IMPACT ASSESSMENT — MUSICAL PROGRESS

 

IMPACT assessment focuses on each student's musical development over time rather than a single performance or task. Students begin at different levels, progress at their own pace and demonstrate their learning in different ways.

Assessment is organised around five connected strands: Performance, Creating & Composing, Listening & Understanding, History & Style, and Theory. Together, these provide a broader picture of each student's musical abilities, understanding and progress.

The framework is being developed progressively, beginning with instrumental assessment through IMPACT Levels A–M. Teachers use instrument-specific criteria to identify current skills and guide further development. IMPACT encourages independence, peer learning and collaboration, allowing students of different abilities to learn and perform together within one musical community.
